The Center for Catalytic Bioscavenger Medical Defense Research
CENTER OF EXCELLENCE NIH Grant 5U54-NS058183

Project Core A
Dr. David Lenz oversees the administrative core to ensure coordination of center affairs. Located at the USAMRICD facility, the Project Administrator, Anjanette Cruz provides administrative support for all the projects, cores and facilitate communication between activities in Arizona, Ohio, California, Israel and at the USAMRICD.

Ms. Cruz also manages all financial aspects for the center, manages time Data Sharing mechanisms and oversee the Training and Education Program to ensure that all Center activities are carried out in compliance with established safety regulations and applicable US laws.

Project Core B
Dr. Douglas Cerasoli of USAMRICD directs the testing of promising catalytic bioscavengers the results of which inform the decision points critical to further development of the candidate compounds. The plant produced proteins are tested to evaluate properties and provide feedback of the plant expression systems.

The testing protocol includes in vitro characterization of enzymatic activity against live nerve agents (NA) as well as preliminary in vivo screening for efficacy and or safety in small animal models pursuant to preparation of IND submissions to the FDA.
